Marine Blue at Progreso Lakes, 5/31/21

The severe drought along with the February freeze put the kibosh on butterflies this spring.  I was doing good to see a half dozen species in our Progreso Lakes yard.  But May has brought some rain, including a six incher two weeks ago, so things are looking good and butterflies are picking up.  Today I saw the first Cassius Blue I've seen in months so I thought I should look more closely.  Woops..... it was the first Marine Blue for our yard.  I've seen very few in the Valley though they are common in west Texas.  Yard butterfly #132!

There was also an Elada Checkerspot which I have seen only a few times in the yard.

I thought this crescent might be a Pearl but it's just a dark Vesta Crescent.

Bordered Patches have invaded with at lest six today.

I rescued this Red-bordered Metalmark but I doubt it lived long.

More Blues in the yard included Western Pygmy, Reakirt's and Ceraunus.

More rain is forecast for the week so things are looking good.
